Wrights Hill Queens Birthday June
5/6 2005

Due to disappointingly heavy losses in the northern
regiments and the inclement weather, the Queens Birthday Wellington Campaign this
year was a relatively muted affair, but as always was enjoyed by all participants.
The events kicked off with the usual fun at the Gladstone
range on the Sunday, with many rounds expended downrange from a variety of military rifles
and pistols (Kevins wonderfully demented cackling still echoes in my ears
). For some it was the first time they had
experienced shooting handguns. Also my new
MP44 was put through its paces, its very nice to shoot and I imagine would be quite
controllable on full auto.

Due to the late notice, the actual battle didnt kick
off till about 12.25pm, however the 100 or so brave souls who ventured out to watch seemed
to appreciate our efforts. The scenario was a
simple affair, beginning with the Germans (Paras and Gerbirgs) holding a position with
captured Yank trucks and equipment, and being overrun by the Kiwis. The battle was repeated at 2pm to a slightly
larger crowd, then the area was quickly squared away and we scurried off to find some
shelter.
