THE 48 SET

The 48 Set was used by New Zealand Forces during WW2 and was produced in America in 1942 under the “lend lease” agreement for use by British and Allied Forces.Below are pictures of the 48 Set in its state of readiness and stowed with spare valve box.

Radio Specifications:

• Valve heater 3 volts
• Receiver and Transmitter H.T. 150 volts.
• W/T and R/T relay 12 volts.
• Set will come on line quickly as the cathode tubes are directly heated.
• Internal batteries stored in the lower compartment.
• The whip antenna sections are stored in a rack on the side of the radio with a maximum height of 3.4 meters.\
• Range of the set using R/T about 5 miles and W/T 10 miles depending on battery condition length of antenna and terrain
