Those names marked with an * above have yet to pay their club fees for 1998. Some of these guys are new members from last month so you have until the July meeting to pay your $15 fees for what's left of this year (normally $30 for a whole year). Some of you (you know who you are) have been coming for several months without paying - your fees are $20 to cover the games you have been playing already! Pay your fees now or be prepared to forfeit your game if a paid-up club member needs your table as they take priority! NO PAY - NO PLAY. You can visit and watch for free, but we will be enforcing the No pay - No play rule. Be warned!

Rumours

First off, there have been some vicious rumours that Peter Colson is helping to produce the newsletter. Now this is pure, unadulterated fibbing, we just blame him if the rumours aren’t true! Now on to the rumours.

Warhammer 40K:

The changes to 40K may be much bigger than they seemed at first with talk of it being split into two separate games. This is because of years of criticism that 40K is ‘only’ a skirmish game. One of the games will be a skirmish game which seems to be a hybrid of 40K, Necromunda, and Gorka-morka (yay, more over complicated and over-detailed rules to slow the game down). The second version will be a merging of 40K and Epic, designed for entire armies to play. Armour values may be replaced with Toughness values eg a dreadnought has a toughness of 7, 6 wounds and a 3+ armour save (so a krak missile would wound on a 3+ with no save allowed).(back to the way it use to be- kc).Guess who’s coming-coming to 40K? The Skaven are supposed to arrive sometime as Warp Vermin. Die-die foolish marines.

There will be new Codex books for Orks, Adeptus Mechanicus, and the Dark Eldar, and look for a Harlequins Codex sometime next year. Oh, by the way, Slaanesh has been revealed as the Eldars still living sub-conscience.

Another rumour about the Emperor (one that I particularly like) is that he hasn’t died, but rather he’s gone insane due to his incarceration in the golden throne, plunging the Imperium into disarray. It seems that the Marines are being made far more powerful and better at fire-fights. Terminators are being made ultra-hard but lumbering, unable to run or charge at double pace. Tactical and devastator squads will be made more attractive than Terminator, assault, and chapter specific squads. Not only is the rules and background being changed, the miniatures are to have a thorough overhaul, with much more dynamic marines, new Eldar aspect warriors and exarchs, and Brian Nelson’s new ‘brutal’ Ork range replacing Kev Adam’s ‘comical’ Orks (what's wrong with comical?).

Warhammer Fantasy Battle:

In the next edition of WHFB (some way off in the distant, distant future) the rough edges of the current edition will be further smoothed off and some of the emphasis drawn away from characters and towards regiments. Toumas Pirinen is making a Necromunda style game for Fantasy (a concept that I myself, Peter, have been developing over the past few months), some people say it will be released in White Dwarf 224, and others believe it will be released in a year or so as a complete game, so keep an eye open for it.

More news on the Dogs of War- there will be a "Leonardo DaVinci" character with "scientific items" which can't be nullified by items such as the sword of destruction because they aren't magic items, and a famous assassin who has "poisonous items". Also included are mounted Saracens (what-ever they are).

The Undead. The first draft of the Khemri Undead army book was on show at the U.S. Games Day. Some new additions and amendments are as follows: There are two levels of Liches and new Mummy Princes and Kings. Also Mummy champions (WS and BS 3, T5, W2, and Ld6) for 32 points, and skeleton champions for 18 points. Rank-and-file skeletons have dropped in price to 5 points per model. Skeleton charioteers can fire twice in the shooting phase, and twice as they charge into combat. The Khemri Undead no have access to the Vanhels Dance Macabre and the Summoning spells as these have been replaced with the "Tomb Kings Command" and the "Tomb Kings Prayer". The command is basically Vanhel's that cannot be dispelled but can only be used once per Undead magic phase whereas the prayer is summon undead horde (3D6 skeletons) with the same restrictions.

White Dwarf:

The Fat Bloke has great changes in mind for the dwarf with the return of cardboard from time to time and the addition of a "readers mail" where you can respond to the optional/experimental rules they will be including in a specific section for such things. He also plans on adopting an ‘Army of the month’ format where a separate army will have several articles about army composition, painting, tactics etc. each month. Also on the agenda is regular painting and converting articles for the beginner and the expert. Paul Sawyer stresses the fact that these changes will occur over the long term. In related news, yes, Jervis Johnson does resemble Mr Bean.
