ARMAGEDDON: As the club president and the rest of the jokers that organise the games club haven’t objected to the idea of the battle for Armageddon it appears it will be going ahead. If you don’t know what this is it’s a large, free for all game of 2nd ED. 40k with as many players as we can possibly get to fit around a table. Contact either me (Peter) or Jarrod to get involved.

Well the new 40K is imminent and Kevin has kindly supplied the following (edited) information about the new version. The movement and shooting phases are still there, but the hand-to-hand, psychic and rally phases are gone to be replaced with a new assault phase. Movement rates have gone and nearly everything moves just a standard rate.

HQ units are now an important part of the game which each army having to have a proper command structure with troops divided into:

HQ

Elites

Troops

Fast Attack

Heavy Support

Space Marines get improved somewhat and a new race, Dark Eldar, is introduced. Some of the new Dark Eldar model are absolutely stunning!

Marines get a Vindicator, Sisters of Battle get heavy weapons squads (excellent!), Eldar get a new Wave Serpent and Imperial Guard get Tank Hunters and Armoured Fists (whatever these are?!). Psykers are still in the game but have really been toned down and not every army can use them. Characters have been toned down a lot as well, to stop them from dominating games. Overwatch is history as well. vindicator.jpg (31720 bytes)

All in all it looks like an interesting new edition which will no doubt prove to be extremely popular. My advice is to get into this new version as soon as possible - I know I will be!

Battle Reports

Some players kindly supplied the following battle reports from our September meeting:

Warhammer 40K:

ICOTYRAN.GIF (2689 bytes) Bryan Orsbourne (Orks) and Jarret Filmer (Tyranids) battled it out against Michael Earley (Imperial Guard) and Ivan Soo (Dark Angels): Well I’m not sure who won this game but it sure was a meaty fight. Ivan’s landspeeder caused my Orks no end of problems (as usual!) and somehow it even managed to survive about 30 Orks on overwatch shooting it from close range! Highlight of the game for me was my Ork Kult of Speed (4 bikes, 2 buggies, a wartrak and a scorcher) roaring round the flank of the Imperial Guard and destroying two Leman Russ tanks and some Imperial Guard before getting themselves wiped out! The Tyranids had a hard fight against the Dark Angels with plenty of termagants being shot to bits.
Glenn Orsbourne (Tyranids) beat Bryan Orsbourne (Orks): Another hard fought battle for my Orks who started the game really well by shooting up heaps of Tyranids in the first two turns. However it wasn’t enough because once those Genestealers got into hand-to-hand my Ork boys just rolled over and died. A very close game that hung in the balance for a long time ICOORKS.GIF (4894 bytes)

Warhammer Fantasy

Kevin Carberry (Goblin) v Ken Snow (Chaos): Orslag the Odiferous Night Goblin Warlord (boy that is a long title) looked out across the battlefeild and like what he saw. He turned and ordered the offensive begin Chaos would know defeat today. The boys move off at speed only to see the Choas horde heading the other way but with their superior speed the wolf riders and chariots managed to cut off their retreat and Ruff on his Wyvern Biter bravley engaged a band of beastmen with a shaman hiding with them. Mean while Wire Wart caught the chaos lord in a hand of gork and left him dangeling in mid air (hehehehehe). Minus their lord   the chaos Knights charged the pump wagons killing two but at that moment the three fanatics where released and mashed 8 of the 10 knights. They where followed by the orges and the remaining pump wagon which finished them off. Ruff dealt to the Beastmen and that was just about that. The only down poit was that over HALF the army never go to have a fight and had to make do with jumping up and down on the dead bodies.

Andrew and Haydens skaven beat Robert Davies’ Khornate Daemons.A great game and well played. We won 12-2 but we did take an anti daemon army and knew what was in his army. Also we were dealt the escape card twice which saved our greater daemon of the horned rat from being killed by the Bloodthirster of Khorne.

A very close game between Robert Davies’ Khorne Daemons and Peter Colson’s Lizardmen. As the Mage Preist Syntarsus approached the field of battle he was presented with the question, "how do you kill a Bloodthirster ?!?". Syntarsus’ army spread out across their side of the field ready to receive the charge of the Khorne Daemons. The Bloodthirster and Flesh-hounds raced towards the Lizardmen as the harpies took to the sky, the Blood-letters and Chaos Spawn plodded slowly forward, and the dragon ogre stood idle. The Bloodthirster and 6 Flesh-hounds crashed into the 4 kroxigor on the right flank, but only managed to inflict two wounds, not even enough to fell one of the mighty beasts, who in turn slew 2 Flesh-hounds and mortally wounded a third. The Daemons then removed 3 kroxigor from play, and suffered the loss of one further Flesh-hound, and the one remaining kroxigor lost its nerve and fled, and even managed to evade the Flesh-hounds pursuing it. Once again the Dragon Ogre was slain by the pinpoint accuracy (or rather the poisoned arrows) of the skink archers. Just then the monkey-god Tzunki granted a boon of magical power to the Lizardmen, and a skink shaman took this opportunity to ensnare the Bloodthirster in a net of magical energy, and as from that point on dispels were few and far between this effectively removed the threat posed by the Greater Daemon of Khorne.

Peter’s Lizardmen stomped, thumped, and in every way defeated Ivan’s Dwarf army.Short, very short. After the Dwarf Organ gun and Gyrocopter were destroyed by the Tempest spell and the Troll Slayers were slain by some Saurus things started going downhill for the Dwarves quite quickly. The Dwarf King issued a personal challenge to none other than the inestimable Slann mage himself, only to be cut down by the ancient Slann (who had no need of the resurrection enchantments he had been preparing prior to the challenge). Things did indeed look pretty grim for the remaining regiment of crossbowmen.
