The Forum

A few changes this month to make room for what needs saying.
Firstly, new title. Smaller, more dynamic, and less linked to me so it doesn’t immediately point all blame at me when I inevitably offend someone (always a good thing).
Next difference being, no rumours this month. Sure rumours exist, but most are old, and whatever happens, happens, we have other things to occupy us in the present without fretting over the future
So into it!
INQUISITOR.
There’s been mixed interest in this.
I was at first sceptical, rather reluctantly impressed with it. I now possess this game, and my initial preconceptions were based on a rather too-brief overview of the rules.
I think I’ve got the grips of the rules, if not a complete exhaustive one, and think they’re actually quite good.
The miniatures are awesome, and I’m having fun considering conversion (look out for my finished warband when I get around to it, I know it seems I start everything and finish nothing, but I might get the gumption to actually FINISH this project, and I think it’ll look beautiful)
The good news about the game is it can be played on whatever scale you want, the miniature size they have on the new inquisitor models is more a chance to do something different than anything else.
I’m actually having trouble keeping control of my imagination thanks to this game.
This Games Club, I’m intending to have a demo game. This will be the first game I run as games master, so I’m bound to make a mistake or two. It is also the first game I’ll be playing in. I hope a few of you guys will want to try out the game, anyone that wants to take part pretty much can, I don’t think I’ll limit the number of participants by anything except how many models are actually taking part
I’ve already devised a fairly interesting scenario, so don’t hesitate to take part, it should be a heap of fun =)
Next on my rather limited Agenda, I think there will be no problem in running a Fantasy Tournament in december. But, I need an indication of interest in this. Anyone interested in taking part, please make this known to me, I’ll need some indication of what I’ll be dealing with

Battle Reports

Peter (Empire) beat Glenn (Vampire Counts)

A GLORIOUS victory!
Everything went according to plan!
Evidently this was somebody else’s plan, and consequently was a successful plan, but that’s a minor detail we may omit from the commentary shan’t we?
In a burst of tactical genius I placed my mortars at my flanks, with foot troops, Greatswords, Flagellants, and knights holding my centre. The huntsmen bravely, uhhhm, hid in the tower… it was a really big tower, okay, you gotta be brave to conquer a fear of heights! They WERE brave.
The undead forces deployed with their large dire-wolf units to the flanks, with black knights, skeletons, and zombies closer to the middle, the very center held by Spirit Hosts and a Banshee.
This was very brilliant on his part as the dead centre of the battlefield was where a few village buildings were located, buildings that I must traverse around, whilst Glenn’s Ethereal’s could simply float through.
The game started well for me, as I had the first turn, and guessed a PERFECT shot from one mortar to a pack of dire wolves, landing bang-on target, culling all but three of the ten mangy mutts! Two of the remaining three met similar fates with huntsmen arrows in them.
I advanced the Flagellants around the left side of the village, whilst the Reiksguard Knights with the Reiksmarshall advanced around the right side.
After the initial shot, my mortars proved ineffectual, and I once again demonstrated that the most destructive force against imperial artillery is, indeed, imperial artillery, as one of my mortars, the accurate dog-killing one, decided to explode. Talk about mixed success.
On the right-side of the village, the Reiksguard engaged and crushed the black knights in a single round of combat, and swiftly followed into the Skeleton Spearmen behind them, which also was a very brief fight.
The remaining full unit of Dire Wolves looked like they may pose a threat to the reiksguard through a flank charge, but after the remaining mortar removed half of them, they looked more like easy victory points to me.
Near the centre, just to the left of the village, Glenn came to find that Banshees are all but useless against Flagellants, and they can’t stand up in a fight either. Unfortunately due to forgetting about the Outnumbering bonus, the flagellants were unable to remove that last wound and make an advance before the accursed spirit host charged them in the flank, which was very inconsiderate as I had no magic weapons!
The Skeletons and Zombies on the left side of the village advanced, the zombies engaging my Flagellants, while the skellies and the lone direwolf survivor on that flank charged the Greatswords and their State Troops, the dire-wolf disappearing quickly due to combat resolution, the skellies going the same route not soon after.
The flagellants held out long enough for the Greatswords, with Captain and magical sword in tow, to face up to the spirit host and stomp it resoundingly into the ground, with the Zombies waiting for their turn.
My remaining mortar faced off against the last five Dire Wolves, and the Blood Dragon Vampire Lord on a winged nightmare. I don’t need to tell you the result of that fight, you already know.
However, this meant my Knights were free to turn around.
The dire wolves turned to face the knights, and the vampire hid behind the wolves.
The knights charged the wolves, and cut some very large holes in them, and then continued into the damned vampire count. Of course the proud fool issued a challenge, and the Reiksmarshall took up the challenge, and summarily dispatched the Vampire with barely an effort at all.
All that remained to do was take care of two necromancers, which a small Free Company detachment managed without trouble, taking the very last wound from the last necromancer with their unit strength bonus alone
Who’s next?
