Okay, I've got a little bit to cover, but none of it's complaining, so it should be all good...

THE 2002 Warhammer Fantasy Tournament!

The results are in, and it appears that our auspiscious club president has walked away with the top spot... I believe this may be a conspiracy, but so far no evidence can be gathered to account for this claim... Second place went to Damien Neems, and I'm still trying to figure out how this happened. Taking out third place was a very deserving Bryan, the ONLY person to get a perfect score in one round, all hundreds.

There were definately some great highlights on the day... such as Kevins 99% Gobbo, 1% Giant army actually pulling off a victory, me getting my rear kicked by an army list I wrote, and so on.

Big ups to Anthony who dared to be different, and brought along a barnyard-inspired Dogs of War army... although it looked more like a cows of war army at times. Also, I must speak well of Paul for being a fairly good opponent in a game system he is unfamiliar with, with an army he does not own, he did quite well. And of course there is acclaim due to those who played themselves as the quintessential sportsmen, gracious opponents much enjoyable to face not for their ability to lose (honest!) but for the way they help the game be more enjoyable. I give this acclaim to Manoj for being a damn good gamer even when the excrement hit the fan, and there were some mutterings that Jaymesh was also a fine sportsman... truly a rennaissance gamer for one of his age.

I'll take this opportunity to appolagise to Marcel, who arrived just a little bit too late to enter into the tournament. I feel bad about it, but I had to be hard-line to be fair to everyone.

Thanks to everyone for the helpful manner in which you all acted on the day, and making this tournament a resounding success. I hope you all enjoyed it as much as I did

And nowwwwwwwwwwww, the results.

TROLLBALL, Ivan's Lament, and the Tournament that Never Was...

Well well well... an uneventful eventful saturday it was.

The mighty, renowned BATTLECRY tournament.

Each year people urge me to attend. This year I was unable to compete as I work on sundays, but I decided to go along anyway to see how everyone got along on the saturday...

Damien entered into the Fantasy tournament. Ivan entered the 40K tournament.

Unfortunately, there was no Fantasy tournament, as there were only 4 people entering, including the tournament official himself. THis was disappointing, to say the least. Especially after Dark Lord Damien and I conspired as to how to cause the other participants meet an untimely end, I wanted to see if the plotting prevailed itsel upon the playing field.

Unfortunately, no field, the plotting comes to nothing.

Fortunately for Ivan, two more players than absolutely necessary to run the tournament showed up, and a very small 40K tournament was under way as I arrived to catch the tail end of game 1

The general impression from that game was 'Viva la HeroHammer 40,000' As chaos lords came a cropper to Swords of Secrets and Force Swords. The full fury of Khorne seemed to become the mild irritation of Khorne as the traitorous horde fell before Ivan's Dork Angels.

Progressing to round two, Ivan was faced with the OTHER traitor legion that day, taking on a putrescent horde of plague marines and daemons of nurgle. Things looked bad for the Nurgling when his Pladue Bearers Space Marine Lord with flashy PLague Sword was possessed by the cheaper and much less effective Greater Daemon of Nurgle, who unforunately found himself up against Ivan's force-sword wielding Librarian. Striking true with the force sword, the psycher, and Ivan, stared in open disbelief as the psychic test required to scrag the Greater Daemon failed. In response, the Greater Daemon of Nurgle promptly ate the librarian (the Greater Daemon of Nurgle is the only cheerful daemon I know of, so I thought it was worth pointing this fact out. They enjoy humming along to the discordant psychic feedback of noisemarines. Just because they're festerously filthy doesn't mean they don't know how to enjoy a good time)

Ivan's space marines slowly crumbled (or corroded) under the pressure of the nurgle advance, and he found himself in a state of 1 for 2, winning half of his games so far.

Round three should have been very bad for Ivan. He was up against the Eldar player who unashamedly gloated over his two Wraithlords, Avatar, 6 Starcannons, many dark reapers, howling banshees, fire dragons, vypers, falcons... his anti-marine army. If you are unfamiliar with the game, Eldar are even more capable of fielding an anti-marine army than Orks is, and dis is from da mouf of a die-'ard Ork Warboss!!!

However, through a combination of Eldar stupidity, tactical foresight, and bloody good luck, Ivan was able to pull off a victory, much to the embaressment of the Eldar Farseer (who, for some reason, was unable to foresee that powerfist that crushed his little pointy-eared head)

And then the day progressed to the ever popular TROLLBALL!!!

Damien and I accompanied the Orc team, while Ivan was drafted to the service of Chaos.

Taking a crash course in TrollBall... in that I crashed into a lot of people who somehow managed to knee me in the kidneys while falling on me (thankfully it was a female player and therefore much softer in the falling on people department)

Damien was predominantly a Mage, wielding the deadly NEON ORANGE PLASTIC GOLFBALL OF DEATH!!!

Whereas I, after realising that runners don't get to hit people, switched from being a runner, to being a fighter, and managed to carve up quite a few legs.

Ivan was a Chaos mage I believe, but it didn't really matter when I chopped him up.

Us, da brave, da ORC, made it to the grand final, taking out second place, which was suprising considering our team consisted of two complete rookies (Damien and I) a mage bearing a worrying resemblance to Pugsley Addams fro the Addams Family, or Bobby from King Of The Hill, and an asthmatic Runner (does the combination of aspects get any worse?) and two other players of rather dubious morality (well they're Orcs, whaddaya expect?). The team that took top spot seemed to be seasoned veterans, and only just pulled out one win more than we got.

It will be amongst the most painful games you could ever play, but I STRONGLY urge you to play TROLLBALL! whenever possible!
