Copy for the news letter needs to be to me by week before we meet .- Kevin
The following is a somewhat informative pile of tripe disguised as a clever and witty editorial. Any corrospondance is welcomed and this space is open for use by any members of the South Auckland Miniature Wargames Club. Even prospective members may seek to include something in here. Thank you for your patience -Peter C.
Okay, first off, just a quick ramble from yours truly. I want to see more of you actually taking part in the aspects of this club, instead of just being passengers and enjoying the ride at the expense of myself and others. This can be achieved by WRITING BATTLE REPORTS FOR THE NEWSLETTER! Also by ORGANISING EVENTS OR WHATEVER. And then of course PUTTING THINGS IN THE NEWSLETTER so that I have things to read would be nice. TAKING CARE OF THE HALL would also be a good place to start, cleaning up the place and setting up/packing away tables would be greatly appreciated. TAKING CARE OF YOUR POSSESSIONS AND WASTE/RUBBISH is something that SHOULD go without saying, but for the benefit of those who decide not to think of such things, be responsable for yourself and for whatever you bring to the church hall, your models books rubbish and so on. RETURNING BORROWED GOODS IN EXACTLY THE SAME CONDITION YOU RECIEVED THEM IN is expected of you, yes even you Mr Williams, no the book was not covered in scratches when it came into your possession. And finally, IF YOU FIND SOMETHING THAT ISN'T YOURS, NOTIFY PEOPLE ABOUT IT! I am currently missing an artillery dice, and until it is returned, my Helblaster Volley Gun is going to have to use the dice I got in the GW Battle Dice pack marked 5 10 15 20 25 and MISFIRE. I am currently in the possession of a vehicles pintle mounted Storm Bolter, a Big Shoota from a wartrukk or something, and a few Ork shoulde pads/weapons pouches, and one imperial lasgun. If anyone is currently missing these items, see me, and I'll get them back to you as quickly as I can.
Sorry to sound grumpy, but we've gotta clean up our act and start becoming good gamers.
WARHAMMER FANTASY CAMPAIGN
Okay, well, I'm officially closing this. Not much interest in it, and to be quite honest, I'm not really that interested in it either. So, it is coming to a close. I appolagise to anyone who actually wanted the campaign to continue, but I'm diverted to other projects now, and there's nothing stoping anyone else running one. It was fun while it lasted.
BIG TOURNAMENT THINGY!!!
Okay, I am thinking of running another impressiveish tournament this coming year about the same time as the last tournament (around January, it seems to be a good month for Tournamenting).
However, before I even THINK of organising anything, I'm going to gauge public opinion and ask WHAT DO YOU WANT THE TOURNAMENT TO BE?!?!? 40K or Fantasy?
Please tell me your preferences okay?
THE SUPER-BIG GIGANTICALLY IMPRESSIVE SORT OF 40K KIND OF CAMPAIGN!!!
Okay, so it doesn't have a name, and it doesn't have rules, or anything else like that. But it will be good!
I'm running a campaign, for... well, any game with a 40K flavour, be it 40K, second edition 40K, any edition of Epic 40K, Battlefleet Gothic, Inquisitor, Necromunda, Gorkamorka, Tiddlywinks... hold on, maybe not the last one, but all the others can be done.
Basically the rules are... enjoy yourself.
Sound good?
There IS a map. It's the map of the greater Auckland area. I'm not lazy, honest, it's just an interesting place to fight over... right?
Well, there's a home-ground feel to it anyway.
At the moment, you're only allowed to take one game in the campaign (as in, if I wanted to use me dear ol' Orks, I can't also use Space Marines in the campaign, because I'm already using me Orks, wot are loadz better than space marines, roit? Roit!) although I may change this in the future.
The outcome of games pretty much effects you as much as you want it, and the map affects as much as you want it. But having said that, I URGE you to actually put some effort into this and be creative. Think of goals, think of consequences, think of reasons to fight, if you get trounced, consider running really really fast to somewhere else because that's what'd happen. If getting trounced has very little effect on you, then this may become rather stale and boring. Use missions, INVENT missions, create new objectives, give your guys names, and little badges for doing well, keep a diary or something, note down the interesting things that happen in your games, and use those interesting things to inspire what to do in your next game to make it even MORE interesting, don't be afraid to try new systems and new ideas
The greater Auckland area is our oyster, lets all give each other blacks eyes and broken noses in our fight to own it!
So far a few of you haven't been entered. This doesn't really matter much because you get to do planetfall any time you like, or move on from off-map, and how long you take part makes no difference to how you do really, and no-one really wins this campaign as such... it just makes our games more interesting, THE GAMES ARE WHAT'S IMPORTANT!
So jump in, guns blazing, and have fun stompin the crap outta those weedy beekeez and umies and panzees and wotnot...
Cheers
-Peter
Right, before we get started with the battle reports, I have something that needs saying, so it's gonna be written in big bright bold lettering so you get the point: |
START WRITING BATTLE REPORTS FOR YOUR GAMES SO WE CAN STICK SOMETHING IN THE NEWSLETTER!!!!! |
As said before, it only needs to be a paragraph or two, along the lines of "A great game, the lads fought valiantly, particularly my all-powerful knights who acted above and beyond the call of duty, crushing the opposing flank entirely. It all would have gone perfectly had my general and his bodyguard died, followed by pretty much everyone else..."
All it takes is a minute or two, jot down the highlights, and then give it to either Kevin or myself (Peter). No effort, you don't have to make a story, don't have to give characters names or anything like that, just a little comment on the game. Bragging about how unstoppable you are is perfectly acceptable =)
Peter C (Empire) vs. Will A. (Wood Elves with Brettonian Allies)
I tried my hand at something completely different, an army consisting entirely of ineffectual peasant refuse. Not a single saving throw higher than 5+
Early on, on my left flank, the Flagellants ran into a bit of trouble at the hands of the accursed wood elf Wardancers, and, once the Spearmen had been crushed, a particularly menacing Treeman.
The Swordsmen to their right spent half the game slogging it out at a painfully slow pace (damn scouting elves) only to spend the last two turns of the game fleeing from the onslaught of wood elven bowfire, and rallying altogether too far from any elf to make ANY difference at all in the game.
The Halberdiers, within whose ranks marched the general, had a rather unfortunate encounter with a lance of Brettonian knights. Revenge, however, was mine as those self same brettonians were then charged by a small detachment of Swordsmen, a large unit of Free Company fresh off a stint of Dryad-felling, a unit of huntsmen, and a wizard with rather bear-like tendencies.
A hard-fought game, frought with frustration for yours truly (@#*%ING WARDANCERS!!!) but I managed to pull a minor defeat from what was looking to be a massacre.
Robert Davies (Chaos Warriors) beat Peter Colson (Empire)
Fresh off a defeat at the hands of an elf, of all people, and facing an army the exact opposite of mine (elite, good saves, small army) commanded by the winner of the recent tourney, I was in trouble.
Unable to grasp the needs of my new force, as yet unaccustomed to their tactics, I did fairly well. My left flank was caved in by the combined attentions of a fairly decent-sized unit of Chaos Knights, two spawn, and a 10-man unit of Chaos Ogres, with a bit of magical support by a sorceror with so nice zappy Lore of Fire spells. I held the onslaught off for about three turns... by hold off, I mean occupied said units with some nice humans to slaughter, but you get the idea
I fared a little better on my right flank, managing to squash some marauders and a sorceror with my halberdiers and their detachment of swordsmen, while my flagellents encountered an aspiring champion with his bodyguard of chaos warriors, and some more marauders who eventually scared off the Free Company helping the flaggies.
It was entertaining to see a single swordsman remove that last wound from the chaos sorceror however... until he got zapped in the back by a fireball... damn wizards
In the end, Robert came out on top with a very deserving Massacre
There shall be a reckoning day...
Wade M. (Dark Elves) beat Anthony H. (Lizardmen)
"Hold your lines men, and wait for my command!" the high sorceress yelled in her smooth voice. Command of the army had recently been granted her.
A mass of Saurus advanced forward quickly
"FIre!"
A rain of black barbed bolts fell on the lizards, cutting down a few of them.
The Witch Elves fidgetted impatiently. They'd much rather be out there slashing and ripping up the enemy.
"ZZZZZZZZZZAPP!!!"
A flash of light from the sorceress apprentice was seen sending the apprentice into the high sorceress.
"I can't draw any power for spells, my mistress." she said
"That's too bad isn't it!!" the reply was stern.
"CHARGE!" the High Sorceress' voice rolled accross the battlefield.
The Body of the army impacted with the lizardmen, the Dark Elves having the lead in the fight.
After a while the lizardmen pushed the elves back, who held upon regrouping.
The Witches, covered in lizardman blood, seeing a great opportunity, charged the rear of a unit of lizards, cutting them up.
Then they dispatched of the last unit.
A close victory, but a great one. The witches were seen going back to the Temple
