Rubbish
Okay, I'm sorry to make this complaint again, but, apparently the Church have made a complaint about rubbish being left behind.
Now, it's not so hard to simply take the odd scrap of wrapping plastic that accompanies your chocolate bar or potato chips or whatever, with you when you leave.
Bring a plastic bag with you to Games Club, and put all your rubbish in there
I'm normally the last to leave, and frequently (with the aid of Damien and one or two others from time to time) end up packing away most of the tables, sweeping up the floor, making sure I grab whatevers been left behind so inquisitive hands don't steal it, making sure the signs and everything is put away properly, and making sure I've remembered to bring all of MY posessions home with me. I shouldn't have to clean up after you lot too, and as this does annoy me, if I find any rubbish has been left behind at the January club, I will be certain to investigate the matter fully, and seek disciplinary action for the offender not living up to the clubs code of conduct. Take your rubbish with you when you leave, don't just chuck it somewhere out of sight, dispose of it properly.
To have the Church Heirarchy make an official complaint means it is a serious matter, as they have every right to decline our usage of the hall, and if that happens, we have nowhere to play, no more games club, no more tournaments, no more campaigns, no nothing. Our hireage of the hall is being renewed VERY soon, don't let us be evicted from the hall through sheer idle laziness and blatant disregard.
Sorry to make the big moan, but this is a critically important matter, and one so easily solved.
Big Things to come...
There may well be some interesting goings on at Games Club this coming year
In particular, there may well be dark tidings rising in the ruins of the cursed city of shadows...
That's all I shall say for now.
The Tourny
Okay, the Tournament should be a relatively simple affair, so here goes.
Armies
These are to be chosen from the relevant Army Books, to a size of 1,500 points, not a single point more.
If no Army Book is yet released, the most recent White Dwarf Army List or Ravening Hordes list is to be used.
You MUST bring a copy of your Army Book/White Dwarf Army List/Ravening Hordes for your army.
You MAY NOT CHANGE YOUR ARMY LIST between games.
Dogs of War ARE allowed, although note one should be careful in your hiring of Dogs of War as it may impact on your Army Composition score...
There will be NO special characters.
The Back of the Book optional themed lists may be used with my consent, you must check with me to use these lists.
Army Lists must be written out clearly, showing the Equipment upgrades for all characters and units, with costs for Magic Items included. If possible, a computer printed Army List will be much preferred.
Also, it will be a considerable help to me if you can e-mail your army list to me at colson@xtra.co.nz or, if you are sending the army list as an attachment, deathloveswar2@hotmail.com so that I can check up on the army lists and make sure they are legal beforehand. You don't have to fear me seeing the army lists and designing an army to counter them, as the tournament seems popular to the poing that I can't fit in with everyone else taking up all the available positions. If I, by some chance, am able to take part, I will undoubtedly be using my Dysfunctional Goblin Army, which is more a threat to myself than anyone else
Games
Each game will take up to 2 hours, lasting up to 6 turns if within the allowed time limit.
To help speed up gameplay, I urge everyone to use Movement Trays for their units. These can be the G.W. made plastic trays, or just some square bits of cardboard the unit is sat on, so you don't need to move each model individually
There will be three games played, and opponents will be randomly selected for the first round, then will progress by rotation so no-one plays the same person twice, or even on the same table twice.
Terrain, once set up on the table, cannot be altered in any way throughout the tournament. Players roll off to determine their side (4+ a player plays on one side, 1-3 he plays on the other, NOT highest roll chooses) to make it entirely random and down to the hand of fate.
The first game will be a standard pitched battle. Games two and three will be different scenarios, which I am yet to decide upon, but which should favour neither player to any great degree.
How To Win
There will be three different different categories you can win prizes in. These prizes are unconfirmed and as yet non-existent, as we need to have a club accountant in order to finalise them.
Firstly, Gamesmanship.
This is a combination of Generalship and Sportsmanship.
Essentially, it goes as follows.
After each game, total up your victory points, but instead of checking on the 1,500 point game line on the Victory Points Table to see if you had a Draw, Minor Victory, Solid Victory or Massacre, instead use the 2,000 point game table. This way it is still possible to absolutely cream someone and get a Massacre result (as Damien did to me last week in our practice game, grrrr) it won't be TOO frequent, which should maintain SOME semblance of balance in such a tiny sized game.
Now, getting a Draw, minor victory, etc. determines how many Generalship points you get (don't worry, I'll have easy, self explanatory score sheets ready for everyone, printed in a nice dark blue as my printer seems to contract Parkinsons disease whenever it tries to print black...).
Then, there will be Sportsmanship scores, awarded to you by your opponent. Remember, we're all friends here, and don't give someone a low score if they cream you fair and square.
Again, this will be printed on the Score sheet.
Your opponent MUST NOT know what score you will be giving them!
Now, there are two other categories, which will be judged together in our inaugural first ever Warhammer Beauty Pageant!
The 'beauty pageant' will run during the lunch break, and everyone judges everyone elses armies. Scoring will be done discretely
The second category is Army Appearance, which covers everything from Painting, to Colour Scheme, to Conversion work, to visual theme, and so on. Consider all these points for your judging. It's probably best to go with gut instinct in these things
The third category, is Army Composition, paying especial attention to theme.
It will be a great help to you if you bring along a bit of a history or some background for your army, to help bring it to life
Essentially, the judging will be on the armies composition itself (is it a fair and reasonable list with a couple of hard hitters and a fair few stock standard adaptable troops? Or is it just a cheese fest containing only Chaos Knights and Chariots, with a lone Bloodthirster with Master of Mortals leading it?) its tactical sensibility (adaptable and versatile with a lot of well chosen and complimentary units? Or basically a one-trick pony with a huge Hammer of the Gods unit sitting in the middle?) its theme (lots of lightly equipped silver helms, with support from Ellyrian Reavers, all characters mounted, to represent the swift horse-nobles of the Ellyrian province of Ulthuan? Or just 2 cannons, 2 mortars, flagellants, free company, and knights, in an army with no justification? This is where an army history or story comes into play to justiofy elements and bring them together into a single excellent story)
Be careful with your judging of this category.
By making these three seperate prizes, I hope to emphasis the importance of each different aspect of our hobby. However, if it seems like someone's likely to take out all three prizes, I may have to step in and say only one prize per person
I encourage you all to put a lot of thought into your respective armies and make some really nice themed lists, and use superior tactics to make these nice interesting themed army lists win on the table
Rules Adjustments
There may be a few rules adjustments, but these will only be of grey areas or clarifications
A comprehensive list of all the alterations necessary will br provided on the day... it shouldn't be long.
For certain right now, here are two alterations that WILL be implimented.
Generals and Psychology Tests
In any phase where multiple units, including your General/unit your general is in, are called upon to make a psychology test that could lead to your General fleeing (i.e. in the movement phase when your general and his unit, and two nearby units, wish to charge Terror causing targets, or panic tests are caused in a shooting phase on your generals unit and another within 12", etc) then the General/Generals unit, must take the leadership test first. If they fail, and therefore flee, then no-one may use the Generals leadership for their psychology test, and must instead use their own Ld characteristic.
War Machine Targetting
ALL war machines, in fact ALL shooting (including Magic Missiles) MUST have Line Of Sight to their intended target. You may not fire over your own troops, but must instead be able to draw a straight line between the center of the war machine to the target unit. This goes for Cannons, Mortars, Stone Throwers, Bolt Throwers, Helblasters, Warpfire Throwers, etc.
That is about all I can think of for now
Any questions or ideas for anything at all that could possibly concern me, either e-mail to the addresses shown above, or call me on (09) 298-7293

Battle Reports

Anthony(Lizardmen) beat Peter(The Empire)
Peter has created a monster..............ME!
He gives me some very useful advice and look what happens. I defeat him.
I won the dice roll for deployment......and let him deploy first.
"Huh?" I hear you ask. I did this for two reasons:
1: I wanted him to deploy first just to see what his line of battle would look like and then counter it.
2: It ended up he would've deployed first anyway because I had counted my scouts as one of my units (Which sounds weird I know).
Well anyway he went first.
Now what follows is a detailed account of the interesting points of the ensuing battle:
One of my units of skinks led by the great Initiative 7 (Good old mark of Tzunki) skink hero, was completely smashed to a slimy pulp. My hero was butchered in the first round.
"........Saurus Hero Unkipank and his seven Cold One mounted brothers were getting ready for an impressive charge up the right flank, when all of a sudden, the cold ones started stumbling about drunkenly and only succeeding in moving forward a few meters. Twice this happened during the battle but eventually the steeds came right and behaved themselves......." Only because the saurus hero was the only one left in the unit (what unit?). This happened when the unit "STUPIDLY" stumbled into range of the waiting Hellblaster. What followed is best left undescribed but it involved a series of very painful dice results and failed armour saves. The lone hero was very angry and moved forward his full 14 inches and into short range of the Hellblaster (a very inadvisable position). Fortunately for me, the Hellblaster chose this moment to misfire. My hero then went on the butcher almost the entire right flank.
My Kroxigor did nothing of notable performance except play soccer with a cannon ball.
One of my salamanders enjoyed a nice little bash in one corner of the table with Peter's 5 man unit of White Wolves.
We were nearing the end of the game when all of a sudden, my warriors reached Peter's battle line and he was forced to move his troops. Then all hell broke loose and there was a fight of min-max (in other words mediocre) proportions in Peter's center battle line. Charge in, rout a unit, get charged, rout yourself.
Overall, it was fun.
Oh, and messy, oh so messy.

Anthony (All conquering Lizardmen) beat Michael (High Elves)
It was a very basic battle.
Michael was using Damien's usual army list so I had a pretty good idea of what he'd be using.
One very notable point in the battle is when the two armies met. It started with my stegadon, which got itself killed, charging the white lions and successfully routed them, while the 25 spearelves were flanked by all my units of saurus except one. My saurus cavalry mowed down the silver helms, this made me realize how fast High Elves are.
It was a very enjoyable battle.
Now I'm off to paint my Flames of War army.

Allies

Batik surveyed the scene. He looked to his left flank and saw a small force of gold and white  warriors, obviously those of the treacherous elves. Their steeds prancing in   anticipation to the upcoming battle, their war machines lined across their   lines as he espied what could only be their fabled sword masters, masters of   combat, second only to the Dwarfs, or so legend would tell. Batik winced as he saw the small size of their force, wondering to himself  why they were this far North, so distant from their homeland. He turned and  looked to his right flank and saw an impressive array of humans. Mounted warriors and Ogres, and even the human’s pitiful attempt at cannons and  thunderers. Batik was inclined to let them have at each other when he espied a strange sight in the human ranks. A black robed figure seem to be ducking   in and out of the human forces, one minute here the next over there. A   strange realisation seemed to dawn on Batik as he watched, and full awareness of the situation dawned as the sight of bone and the stench of  death reached him. He turned to Korliss who stood close by with a questioning look, " Well  can’t be having an uneven fight now can we?" he asked his second, "and  besides, they be elves. They be more likely to trip over and impale  themselves before they hurt the undead!"

 *****

 Allarion was amazed.

Not only had the Dwarfs marched over to his side, they had turned and were  now holding key positions in his line. Not only did arrow after arrow arch  across to the enemy but salvo after salvo ripped through the enemies ranks  from the Dwarf warriors. They stood dauntless in the face of attack, and  Allarion was impressed, not that he would ever admit that to them or their  leader, although there were no words spoken between the two wary races, only  a nod between himself and the Dwarf leader. As the enemy had ranked up, fear had risen up in his forces until the   strange Dwarfs started what could only have been a ritual. Each and every   Dwarf warrior started to bang armour and shield with their weapons. Axes and   hammers banged against metal armour as the Dwarfs looked on grimly at the   enemy. A rhythm formed as they banged and soon his own warriors were   repeating the action their fear quelled and their anger being fuelled as the humans and undead marched forward. Quicker and quicker the beating became,  and Allarion was amazed at the heightened moral which was caused. No longer  were his warriors afraid but were now in fever pitch to confront their foe. Still the beat quickened, amazing Allarion at the subtlety of the music  within the beat. And then at it’s crescendo the Dwarfs let forth their fury with his Elven warriors close behind as they all let loose their rain of missiles. A unit  of human knights and several Ogres fell under the aerial onslaught as the  enemy stilled seemed to roll on. Allarion motioned to his right where he had  positioned a unit of brother spearmen and one of two chariots to roll  forward and hold that flank. And he looked to the left where his Knights and  other chariot had already moved into position. Allarion watched in amazement  as he saw the strange Dwarf contraption take flight and fly forward on the left flank. Allarion’s own brother, Travilass had set forth his own great eagles on a   mission only Travilass would be aware of, and would no undoubtedly help the   battle. Allarion watched as the humans continued to roll forward their lines sightly diminished as missile after missile still hurt their ranks. He felt  the crackle of magic as saw his brother seem to chant quietly but aloud, and the strange tingle faded quickly. He watched in amazement as his brother  gathered together what he called the winds of magic and a flaming phoenix  crashed into a unit of knights which were riding towards them. Allarion reasserted his attention as the human knights rushed forward charging into his force of sword masters the finest warriors in the world, besting even the Dwarfs that aided him.

 *****

Batik ducked under the sword blow and rolled across his opponent’s line of   sight then struck out slicing deep into the creature’s leg and the vampire   cried out in pain as Batik’s axe bit deep, causing a serious wound. The creature looked on with hate filled eyes at the fast Dwarf warrior with the  shining axe, it rose and transformed into a large bat and hovered for a  second, "you may have won this battle dwarf, but you are marked and soon I  will come and repay you for this defeat" the bat said in clear words, and  with that it took off and flew from the battle field. Several shots from the hunderers followed the creature but they seemed to bounce from the creature’s hide as it fled. Batik wiped his brow with the back of his  gauntleted hand and readied himself to battle the undead knights that had crashed into his force, but as he turned he watched as the undead creatures   seemed to tremble then crumble to the ground soon becoming dust and being blown in the wind. Batik surveyed the rest of the field, and watched as the humans seemed to   have lost their nerve as their allies crumbled before them and they fled the field. Batik watched as Drobill killed a human wizard as he attempted to  flee, and then harried the humans off to the distance. Batik turned to find  the noble Elf general, the elves had surprised him in holding, and they had so far not stabbed him or his Dwarfs in the back with their usual treachery.  It was then that Batik saw the Elven magician cradling the form of the noble Elf general in his arms, his face distraught and tears flowing down his face. The rest of the Elves looked grim as they gathered together their fallen comrades. Batik turned again to the north and motioned for Korliss his second to come forward. Korliss pressed forward, The Nufankor banner still clutched in his   grasp, in his other glove he held the book of grudges. "tell the others to be moving out Korliss, we have places to be," he looked on at the grieving  Elves as they mourned their losses, "besides I have been here in their  position before, and I be knowing where we are not wanted." Korliss moved the forces again to the north in search of Karak Vuln, as Batik started his  writing again.

Ivan (Orks) vs Paul (Dark Angels)
Ivan + Guess Range weapons = Victory.
This may seem a strong boast, but ask anyone. Damien and Paul will agree.
Pauls Dark Angels were wiped out to a man mainly by the unerring accuracy and lucky scatter dice. The Dread, Termies, Vindicator, Scouts and 2 Marines were the only casualties not caused by the looted Basilisk. The Dread, half the Termies, and the Vindicator were taken out by the Warbikes' shooting. The rest of the boys got kinda plastered by the shooting from the marines. In the end I only had half my army standing but da boyz still won.
Waaagh!
Nick vs Paul
I started the bloodfest and finished it too. This is because of my Terminators and Grand Master. They single handedly took on a command squad and 3 assault marines, a commander and a librarian.
It started with Nick losing 3 Tactical Marines. Two from the Predator and one from a Missile. That is all that happened that turn.
Nick started his turn with a very smart move. This is because his tricky assault marines sneaked up on the Vindicator and placed 5 melta bombs...
The explosion was so intense that it killed two marines. Despite this the assault marines pushed on and destroyed a whole scout squad single-handedly (a lot of Pauls Dark Angels appear to have only one hand, makes you wonder what they were doing with the other hand eh? Eh? -Pete)
The second turn I was worried because I was down 1 tank and scout squad. Things improved when the terminators arrived and visciously attacked the Command squad and dealt to them.
On the other side of the battlefield the Dreadnought charged the lone Chaplain and slowly but surely killed him. One veteran that was left from my tactical squad killed two Assault Marines. By the end of the turn I had Nick on the run and the battle was pretty much done.
His terminators failed to show up and his remaining marines behind the rocks were slowly obliterated.
All the remaining marines were drawn to the Dark Angels in a last ditch effort to destroy them, but it was more like sheep to the slaughter.
Not far away, the bike mounted Chaplain finally fell to the continued blows of the ancient Dreadnought, and then, the only midnight marine-friendly person on the table was the Vindicare Assassin.
As soon as possible, Paul sent a Ravenwing Land Speeder, with assault cannon and heavy bolter. It flew right up to him and started to blast away.
Imitating The Matric, the Assassin dodged all of the bullets and sent a few of his own from his special pistol, and even assaulting it then running back again in the next turn, where he was finally killed by the continued hail of bullets.
Jaymesh (Chaos Nurgle) vs Nick (Dwarves)
The army of Nurgle deployed in a long line, with the Chosen Knights in the middle.
Nick, well, deployed the same as always. You know, with the Flame Cannon thing in the middle & the Crossbowmen to each side.
All of the Dwarf missile weapons were out of range but his cannon was within range. The game started with a big crack from the cannon and four marauders died. My whole army sat back while the knights being led by my Lord of Nurgle and Exhalted Champion charged.
They reached the Dwarven Lords' regiment and started to hack the Dwarfs to pieces, and carried on towards the cannon which was next on my Lords' list.
The cannon crew ran like the bearded girls they are and I failed my restraint test and ran him down. Meanwhile, the rest of my army was pissing off his bowmen 'cause they were out of range.
The knights came back on and suffered all up 32 crossbow bolts, but charged into the Crossbowmen and they ran.
So, I cut the scum down and ran into the Flame Cannon thing and sliced down 16 Crossbowmen.
By this time I had lost 8 Chosen Warriors, 10 Marauders, and 4 Chosen Knights. The Knights cut down 16 more bowmen and then Nick had a regiment of 16 guys left.
So the whole army swarmed the last regiment. The unit of 10 Marauders and Normal Warriors charged at the same time, he failed his fear test and was cut down by 10 marauders.
