Copy for the news letter needs to be to me by week before we meet .- Kevin
Each month we organise the next month's games during the day. This usually happens between the Morning and Afternoon sessions when I, your Club Secretary (I prefer P.A. but the rest of the club executives dont appreciate my secretarial uniform of a tight black skirt - I do so have nice legs) will be going round trying to fill in slots for the next month. Now the rules are that fully paid members will be given first preference - we have limited space and those members who have paid for the year will have priority. At the meeting you can organise games amongst yourselves and the tell me or simply tell me what you want to play and I'll try and find an opponent for you. If you are not at the club meeting and you want to organise a game for the next meeting you can contact me by email at arthur.young@whitcoulls.co.nz, and I will see what I can do. Now if you have a game booked then you will get a table, if you have not organised a game with me then you will have to make do with whatever is spare (if there is anything spare).

The Forum
Not a lot to say this week really, as most of my attention is tied-up in getting ready for Fields of Blood...
Fields of Blood!
Okay, the big G.W. Tournament.
All tickets have sold out, for Fantasy at least, although I have a friend who has an extra ticket it seems, so I could possibly help anyone that really wants to go but never had a chance to buy a ticket. This is a big IF though.
It's happening the weekend of 13th-14th September, and Bryan, Damien, Arthur, and myself are taking part in it. Also Rion and Matt, the infrequent members who joined in January and through work committments etc. have been unable to attend since, are also attending.
Let the fun begin!
Feel free to come along and see how we're all doing, and laugh at me getting my ass kicked =(
Once more I strongly urge you all to give Tournaments a go, especially next year as the Points Ladder system will be rewarding you for attending gaming events outside our club, representing us proudly and patriotically and so on.
Expect a full report of happenings in the October newsletter.
Assorted Rumour Snippets
Okay, I'm not really making a proper rumours section here, this is all just a few snippets I've picked up about the place, you probably know them by now.
BRETONNIANS are apparently reverting to their pre-5th Ed. fluff, where the noble knights and upper classes of Bretonnia were just as capable of being corrupt and indulgent as they were of being noble and virtuous... in other words, we'll be told of the OTHER side of the Bretonnian story, the side they'd rather not have you hear (ooooh, scandelous!)
The army itself may be getting a few units such as peasants, and a warm machine siege engine of some sort, most likely a catapult (stone thrower) to actually give them a chance in Siege games. Possibly a bolt thrower, but I very much doubt a Cannon will be featuring anywhere in their army.
| Kislev is getting an army for the Summer of Chaos
campaign, but most of us are probably already aware of this, although the Boris Ursa model
is very, very nice:
|
Makes me all warm and fuzzy inside... or maybe it's just the vodka that Kislevites encourage one to drink =P
There are also rumours of a far-east army with a large proportion of Ogres. Interesting to see if this is true, and if so, how it will be handled.
On the 40K side...
No-one plays 40K so it doesn't matter =P
Big Game
Okay, Barry is twisting my arm, he wants to play the Big Game.
This means, I need to find other people willing to play the Big Game
The Big Game is a Big Game of Fantasy, involving lots of points on both sides.
Anyone interested, contact me, colson@xtra.co.nz
Or just speak to me at the next club meeting
Lord of the Rings
Good game. Good game.
We need more players to make things REALLY interesting, so why not give it a go?
Shadow and Flame is out, and oooooh I've got an inkling to unleash the bearded fury of the Dwarves on someone
Return of the King shouldn't be too far away now, which should REALLY heat up the action, Gondorian Knights of Dol Amroth (I think?) and Oliphaunts... oooooh it's going to be good
Warhammer Ancient Battles
Okay, we've got a new guy popping down to the club this month.
He's an Ancients player, and as I think Warhammer Ancients is a damn good game, I advise pretty much everyone to give it a shot. Cheap, good gaming.
Well, that's my Warhammer Ancients propaganda done...
The Points Ladder System
Many thanks and much appreciation goes to Robert Groom for making the frame-work of this system
It will be put in place starting January, so we have until then to modify the system and add what appears to be missing.
Any suggestions can go either to Robert when you see him, or to myself, and I'll discuss this further quite possibly.
So far, being at your games earns you 5 points (per game)
Not turning up to your arranged games without any notification subtracts 30 points
Writing a battle report (win, lose, whatever) earns you 15 points
Anything else written for the newsletter grants you 10 points
Winning, losing, and drawing your games will all grant you points, but we're looking to limit the bonuses of winning over losing somewhat to prevent good players only organising games against those less tactically developed (someone whose been playing their army for ten years vs. someone who's just starting their army)
Also points will be earned for representing our club in more public activities such as Tournaments, be they inter-club, national, or otherwise. This is up to the discression of the Points Ladder's score-keeper, which will most likely be me as I'm always at the club and am yet to miss a gaming day apart from Fields of Blood this year...
In-club tournaments (ones that we hold, except for inter-club tournaments which have been noted above already) will earn points for their participants, which will vary from tournament to tournament, the actual amount will be decided jointly by the Organiser of the event, and the Club Administration
Finally, I believe the administrative members of the club should be able to offer points for merit to members of the club who are deserving of such reward and accolade through acts not easily rewarded by the Points Ladder system, from a set amount. These should be administered at the end of the year immediately before tallying up each club members points total (so as to be completely free of influence from the points totals thus far).
The person that runs the Points Ladder should not be a part of it, in other words should gain no points and/or not be elligeable to 'win' the Points Ladder positions (1st, 2nd, and 3rd places) to ensure near complete inbiased administration of the system.
As Club President, I volunteer my services for this as it's probably my responsibility anyway, and Bryan's already volunteered me for the job =P
There will be prizes for First, Second, and Third places, which will be either cash from our funding pool excess (after all necessary fees have been subtracted etc.) or, if a better suggestion of a prize is made, this may replace the cash (the cash paying for it) or suppliment it.
Warhammer Fantasy Campaign
I think I can safely say I've got 4 or 5 people already willing to commit to this campaign I will be running from january, on either a 1 year or 2 year stretch, so it's definately going to happen.
Anyone else willing to take part, just inform me of you interest.
Really, it's the most easy-going campaign I can conceive, while still retaining the bonuses of a campaign.
Essentially, a semi-map based campaign, one of expansion.
There will be a hex grid map (anyone know where I can get some decent Hex Grid paper?) with different terrain drawn onto it
Basically, victory will grant you expansion, defeat will see you going nowhere, and extreme defeat (losing a massacre) will result in losing territory.
When the map begins to fill up, soon your victory will gauranteed the enemy losing ground.
Sieges will be possible, and raids, and pretty much anything.
The best bit is, it will mostly be normal games of warhammer with only very, very minor alterations (you can 'stake' a single territory and use it's bonus, which may range from adding a dice to your Power or Dispell pool once a game, to making a certain Rare unit a Special choice)
For the most part, it will be normal Warhammer games, with normal Warhammer options. The difference being each battle will have a consequence
Hope you all will take an interest
Cheers!
-the Evil Garden Gnome,
el Presidente Peter
Peter (the Last Alliance) beat Arthur (Saruman's Uruk Hai)
The glorious army of the Last Alliance faced off against the dreaded Uruk-Hai, intent on slaughtering this foul menace once and for all.
The advance was simple, men supporting men, elves supporting elves, their numbers alone allowing them to surround the lines of the Uruk-Hai.
Although the Uruk-Hai fought viciously, they could not contain the fury of the Elves of Rivendell, nor Man of Gondor, and none could stand in the way of Mighty Lord Elrond Half-Elven, not even the fearsome captain of the Uruk-Hai, Lurtz
Minor set-backs arose when Saruman made use of his latest software:

The power of this new Wizardry Computing Software allowing Saruman to strike down the forces of Good with mighty Sorcerous Blasts in the most inopportune directions
The battle wore down to a laboured climax, and just as victory was inches from the grasp of the foul half-orcs, the Elves and Men were able to vanquish enough Uruk-Hai to break their spirit and send them fleeing.
All hail the might of the virtuous elves and the staunch loyalty of their human allies!
Glory to Lord Elrond!
Anthony (Russians) beat Peter (German Panzerkompanie)
Goddamned russian bloody tanks, goddamnit! Don't EVER let anthony anywhere near ANYTHING even REMOTELY related to WW2! ARGHH!!!!!!
