Pete's Bitz

Okay, I've renamed my (un)usual submission to the newsletter this month, you'll see why later.
Storm of Chaos!
Well, it's almost here. It hits in July, starting July 1st, going right through to August 30th.
Two full months of Chaos bashing, I can't hardly wait!
The Storm of Chaos site is up in preview mode, with the Storm of Chaos army lists available, even though they're lacking the Special Characters
The address is www.storm-of-chaos.com and will likely be getting a few updates before battle commences proper.
As of right now, there's a few preview pictures of new models (Teutogen Guard rock so much it should be illegal), and the army lists for Middenland (Empire), Sea Guard (High Elves), The Dwarf Slayer List (dwarves... well duh), The Errantry List (Bretonnia), and the State Army of Sylvania (Vampire Counts) on the side of the angels, and representing the slightly more evil Chaos axis we have Archaon's Horde (Chaos Warriors), Be'Lakor's Daemonic Legion (Chaos Daemons), The Cult of Slaanesh (Dark Elves I think), and Clan Eshin (Skaven)
Fighting whoever's in arms reach is Grimgor's 'Ardboyz (Black Orcs)
It's going to be one hell of a show. Join in, you lot!
The Brorvarld Campaign
This is going well enough.
I must note that between July 1st and August 30th I will be pausing the campaign to allow us all the freedom of taking part in the Storm of Chaos campaign if you are so inlcined. If you aren't... well, too bad, because I am, nyer nyer!
If you haven't heard yet, the Brorvarld Campaign (the club campaign if you haven't caught on yet) is up and running online at http://www.nzrealm.com/whfb where you'll find any and all information you need.
Club Forum
Ahhh, now for the reason I happened to change the name of my submission this month...
Kevin and I are discussing the idea of a web forum discussion board thingame for the club, and by discuss I mean we raised the issue and that's about it so far...
It'd be useful for co-ordinating campaigns, getting feedback, organising tournaments, and all manner of things that will benefit the hobby.
Hopefully we'll have this up and running by next month.
The Points Ladder
Okay, I need to say something...
I, Peter, am the Umpire for the Points Ladder.
And now I must add...
If you want to win the ladder and get Fabulous Prizes, you have to TELL ME when you've done something that merits points on the Points Ladder. I'm not going to be chasing after you guys, it's up to you to earn the points, and up to you to tell me about it.
The things that earn you points are noted below:
Each Arranged Game played - 5 points
Winning an Arranged Game - 5 points
Drawing an Arranged Game - 3 points
Writing a Battle Report for the Club Newsletter - 15 points
Making a Newsletter Submission - 10 points
Adsence from your Arranged Games without notification - 30 points reduction to your current score
Now, another note I must make...
Some of these categories, specifically Battle Reports and Newsletter submissions, I find out about after giving out the updated Points Ladder Results, so your contribution wont be noted until the next month, unless you notify me of your submission and send me a copy to verify, then I can note it off more promptly.
So, without further ado, this months Points Tally!

The Newsroom…..

Jim: Well boys and girls welcome to another thrilling instalment of the newsroom, I’m Jim Johnson and this Bob Bifford and we are excited to be here…..

Bob: Ahh that’s Bifford Jim, Bifford.

Jim: Umm that’s what I said? Bifford.

Bob: No Jim it’s Bifford! how many times do I have to Tell you!? Bifford. B-I-F-F-O-R-D!

Jim: Yeah whatever Bob, let’s just get on….

 Bob: that’s Bob, Jim Bob!

Jim: Roight…….well while Bob gets over his psychosis, why don’t we see what is on the board today? Well seems the Summer of Chaos is in full stride, what with new lists all planned and ready to…

Bob: That’s right Jim the whole place is a buzz with the news at the moment, and eyes should be peeled for the pre-scheduled lists coming out on the Games Workshop website on April 16th, enabling all you budding snotlings out there to prepare your forces for the Summer of chaos and use the new lists with converted models and so forth….

Jim: Too true Bob, too true. On the same note, why the mighty high elves are to have a few small treasures in their list. Firstly they are to be a Seaguard list. Lothern Seaguard are to be more then 0 – 1 choice and also warriors can become like sailors and trade their spears for bows, and the great bolt throwers are to be 3 per choice. Not only this but before the battle begins the glorious elves will have the opportunity for all bow armed models, including the bolt throwers but not the ‘sailors’ will have 1 free turn of shooting. No line of sight needed and no modifiers for long range…..beautiful, just beautiful……….

Bob: Never mind the smelly Elves Jim, what about the great and mighty dwarfs Jim? They have the new Fanatic Dwarfs called Beserkers and as an amendment from last info given it is 5 per warrior unit choice and they do not need to stay near the unit, and they have Magic resistance 2! Now back that up with the new goblin hewer which does D3 Strength 4 hits against the unit hit per rank! And at -2 save. Now the dwarfs have a nice treasure themselves. After the game is setup and play is about to begin the dwarfs get to surge forward 2d6 inches forward, now how….

Jim: Well beyond this are a lot of nice new figures for almost everyone to get their hands on. A new Daemon prince model, new Black orcs with great weapons, a new orc shaman with interchangeable heads, the new war machine for dwarfs, beserkers, new character models for the dwarfs, a beautifully sculpted valten…..(gasp)….new blood bowl models and new……(gasp)…..witch hunter models and…….(huff)…..sisters of battle models…….(must breath)……Necromunda models…….(wheeze)……..(gasp)…….(must finish about models)…

Bob: well folks, seems Jim has collapsed for the moment so I get to introduce the next delectable treat for you all. Welcome to the next huge host, and I do mean HUGE. Welcome the Ogre kingdoms. Now too long have we ogres been in the background. Too long have we been used by anyone and their dog. Now we have our own world where we can use ourselves……..hmmm that didn’t come out right. Well anyway there will be metal models with interchangeable parts, making most armies unique. Also will be Ogres with cannons strapped to their arms, The great loud Belchers! Also will be the wild kin who will be able to have magical attacks, Great sabertooth tigers. And the small addition of the knoblars. This small beasts are smaller then goblins are treated as luck totems and such. Some will be daring enough to ride on another’s shoulders and be able to attack a normal man……

Jim: Enough of that Bob…….right I have my breath back now, now what you all wish to hear about is the rumours of those not as noble wood elves. Everything is in a limbo stasis at the moment, but some has filtered through. Seems the dryads will no longer be trees but more female like. They are also looking at have what they call elk riders (they’ll be the ones riding stags) fairy swarms and such and a whole new model for the elf steed…..

Bob: well Jim that wraps another instalment from us, why not come over and see what the wife has cooked Jim?

Jim: well Bob as you said, we only live once and well folks that is us signing off.

Battle Reports

Damien (Beasts of Chaos) beat Glen T (Khemri)
Muahahahahhaha!!!!
I managed to score a minor victory over the Tomb Kings. It was quite
amazing. The game was REALLY close. I managed to lose 1001 points of my
army, but managed to wipe out most of Glens army in the process (he only had
three chariots, a chariotless-Tomb King (who was on one at the beginning)
and the Heirophant left.
Most of my killing power came from my beastherds. My Ogres got hammered by
his Bone Giant and Tomb King...just abolutely mauled, I mean, those poor
things never had a chance. They were too beautiful to die!. And the chariot
unit just tore apart my Bestigor unit (I though more then one of those
Frenzied nutters in the front rank would still be alive, and actually HIT).
Basically most of what I had that was immune to fear got chewed up.
My beastherds carried the game, as I said, my Beastlords unit killed off the
Ushabti (after a prolonged fight, due to the magic superiority they had they
kept coming back) and a Tomb Scorpion (but got wiped out from a flank/rear
charge from the TK/Chariots while they were killing off the final Ushabti).
Meanwhile an ambushing unit, (carrying my BSB), after failing a terror test
and rallying managed to take care of the Casket of souls (it didn't help
that my wargor rolled triple 2's to hit). While my last unit was threatening
the flank, and took out a light horsemen unit, no biggie there.
The trolls...well...died. But they took out the Tomb Kings chariot while
they were at it. And were well behaved . For the most part.
My gaint was the star of the show though, the big lug was charged and
wounded by a unit of Carrion, his response was to headbutt one of them, and
then wipe the entire unit out with his club then next combat phase...heh
heh. Then got charged by the bone giant...took a couple of wounds, then
smacked it with the club (Having an initative value of 1 hurts) leaving it
on one wound. Then headbutted the bugger the next turn. Can't beat the real
thing when it comes to giants, I'm afraid.
It was a great game, although I was really shocked to lose my Bestigors AND
Ogres in one round of combat (nearly 500 points right there). Plus the
absolute owning I got in magic (Glen was surpised at just how much I was
letting him get away with in the magic phases, and it REALLY started to hurt
in the later TK magic phases), still, I was expecting that to happen.
The only problem now is...just what in the hell to have the victory feast
with. Centuries old bones aren't too tasty, nor have much of a nutritional
value that the growing and marauding Gor needs every day.
Damien (Beasts of Chaos) beat Garth (Chaos Mortals)
Well, to start off, I had a good terrain set up, I managed to roll some
forests on both flanks (which helps with flanking manouvers, plus keeping
chariots away) and a hill in the middle. I was basically up against a large
unit of marauders, chaos warriors, some furies, a small unit of warhounds,
chosen knights, a chariot, a Lord on foot, two level two wizards (death and
fire magic) and a BSB. All on their own. I managed to roll (roll mind you)
the oxen stands and the bears anger. While I was up against both first level
D6 S4 hit spells, Conflagoration of Doom and drain life.
So, I was outdone in the magic phases again, no biggie. My dispel pile was
large enough to deal with that, I had to launch my ambush rather quickly, I
felt, as it was up against chaos, but the whole battle really seemed to be
me putting the mortals on the back foot (they were advancing AWAY from me,
for some odd reason, you'd think all that armour was actually help with
their bravery...). One unit of Beasts Amushed on a far corner of my table
edge, and took very little part in the game (was my BSB's unit too), while
the other came up right behind the chaos infantry battle line. To be charged
by the chaos lord! The warhounds failed, but found themselves, by luck of
the scatter dice, where I wanted them to be..heh.
Now...whats REALLY unfair here is that beastherds are skirmishers,
obviously. So if charged by a 25mm based character HAVE to make ranks of
three. Therefore, no rank bonus.* It was rather evil. I managed to win
combat once, before the unit was charged by the chariot in the flank, the
unit broke, but outran both the lord and chariot, and then rallied...and
then got charged again...then broke...then rallied...then panicked after my
Centigor broke and fled off the table.... It should be time to point out
they were fleeing, and rallying right in front of his wizards too, had I got
the chance I could have taken Garths magic out. The hounds only took care of
the furies (that was left to screen them, due to thier causing fear). And
didn't do much else.
My Centigors smashed his unit of hounds. And were looking REALLY threatening
until the chariot and lord got their hands on them (they were frenzied, so I
couldn't flee), so the remaining two broke and fled and stayed that way at
the end of the game.
The trolls were charged by the chosen knights and had two cut down (unit of
three), I replied by puking on a knight, killing it, and then making all but
one of my regen rolls! The trolls ended up passing their break test (thanks
to my beastlord and his close proximity to them). And managed to kill two
more with puking while my beastlords unit hit them from the side, completely
wiping out the rest of the unit. The trolls then went off to harass the
marauder horsemen (and make sure they didn't take table quaters), while my
beastlord and his boys charged the chariot which fled...then redirected into
the lord (three per rank again, ugh). I managed to wound the lord twice, win
combat, and he passed...arg... then hit back against my Beastlord, hitting
four times, wounding four times. My beastlord then FAILED all his 6+ armour
saves (Strength 5 sucks...), and had to rely on his ward saves... I
rolled.... 6, 6, 6, 4! Effen brilliant! My lord then decided enough was
enough and cut down that armour wearing ponce with his great axe!
My ogres owned his Marauders, they killed five on the charge...and lost the
combat, due to ranks, and a wound etc. Then killed six more the next round
and caught the fur wearing babies as they fled. My gaint didn't have such an
impressive time, spending the whole game tied up with the chaos warriors,
who eventually killed the gaint. It didn't help he fell down while jumping
on them either. But what the gaints death DID allow, was for my frenzied
Bestigor to motor over the BSB sitting inbetween the Maruders and Warriors,
overrun off of the table, come back onto the table and hit the warriors in
the flank after they killed the gaint. The warriors then soon broke and got
some great weapons stuck up their shiny little backsides.
All in all it was an utter massacre, his wizards (one that was charged by my
BSB's beastherd and chose to flee, the other failing a panic test) and the
chariot failed to rally, leaving only the Maruders as the only unbroken unit
on the table. My casualties were rather light, the centigors, a small unit
of warhounds (not the ambushers), the giant, and one of my beastherds. My
rolling was really good on this game, I'll have to say. I made nine or ten
out of thirteen regeneration saves for my trolls (they were only stupid once
or twice as well), I made most of my leadership tests I was called to make
(the ones I failed were usually ones were I was beaten so horribly in combat
I HAD to flee), my centigor made all of their armour save, until the
chariot/lord deal plus my beastlords ward saves right at the end!
Puny humans, hah!
* After being directed to browse through the BoC book and look through the
Raiders rules it's come to my attention that Beast herds ARE allowed to rank
up four wide, even IF they're charged by an independant character.
Peter Colson (Cult of Ulric) drew against Arthur (Bretonnians)
Ahhhhhhhh, canny tactical play by those bleedin' froggy Bretonnians.
I must admit, looking down the barrel of the gun as it were, those damned columns of knights were as scary as hell.
I feel I accounted for myself rather well, all things considered.
With the table literally festooned with woods and hills, Arthur drawing spells that attack within a certain range of woods and/or hills was just a little bit of a shock.
Arthur managed to spread his army with pegasus knights on my left flank, next to a trebuchet, Questing Knights and Knights of the Realm, bowmen (cheesy bowmen), woods, Men at Arms, Knights Errant, and more cheesy bowmen.
Facing off against them, once more from my left to right, was a unit of Hunting Hounds, Warriors of Ulric, a hill, more Warriors of Ulric, Teutogen Guard, MORE warriors of Ulric, Knights of the White Wolf, hunting hounds, and some lovely skirmishing Wolf-Kin.
On the left I occupied the Pegasi with Hounds, until the hounds were eaten and the pegasi had to flap back towards the battle.
In the centre-left the lone Warriors of Ulric unit held out against the Knights of the Realm for a couple of turns, effectively removing them from the game for the loss of my tiny little infantry unit.
In the centre, my Teutogens crushed the Men at Arms and Knights Errant, finishing off the bowmen, then swung back towards the battle-line. Unfortunately by the closing turns my Warriors of Ulric had just lost a combat, failed their break test roll of 6 or less, failed their re-roll (DAMNIT!) then ran like hell, only to be caught and crushed by the damned Questing Knights! Cheesy 5+ ward saves!
My own knights hardly saw combat, with the cheesy bretonnians moving away from them... cheesy bretonnians
My Hunting Hounds, those that weren't eaten by Pegasi, were perforated and punctured by Longbows, then beaten and chased off the table... I stand by my conviction that they were playing chase with the bowmen, and showed they could run faster by scarpering off the table... excitable hounds that they are...
The Wolfkin never saw combat, and the game closed with me losing a couple of units but coming out 100 victory points above my french-speaking dandy toff of an adversary
I'll get you next time, Arthur!
And the horse you rode in on!
